Vecchie Terre di Montefili-Courtney Tate (Wine Envy Buyer)
Montefili is part of the Tuscan renaissance, organic wines with passionate expression of place.
Vecchie Terre di Montefili has risen from the ashes. This beautiful old estate in Chianti has been revived with new investment, talent and care. The estate's quality has risen significantly since the arrival of now winemaker Serena Gusmeri. Their wines mimic this rise with a steep ascent from their Rosso through Chianti Classico and Gran Selezione, summiting at the Anfiteatro and Bruno di Rocca.
This is now one of the most thrilling estates in Tuscany, I will be looking forward to each release!
About The Region
On a small hilltop in Tuscany lies the Montefili estate. At 1500m above sea level, three aquifers from Panzano, Montefioralle and Sicelle meet and creates three distinct soils and terroirs. The estates terroir is abundant in the famed pair of soils; Galestro and Albarese. These soils are at the cornerstone of the most prized areas of Tuscany and Chianti.
Chianti DOCG and Chianti Classico DOCG are wine regions dominated by Italy’s most popular grape; Sangiovese. The best of the region, of which Montefili can be included, possess wines of great fragrance, power, beauty and character. Panzano, wherre Montefili is located, is an organic district and also places high value on Cabernet Sauvignon.
“Montefili wines are the wines we want to pour at dinner, to gift to our loved ones, and to explain to a stranger a little of what’s in our hearts.”
–Serena Gusmeri, Winemaker
