About This Wine

'Sakura' is a red field blend of 57% Syrah and 43% Nebbiolo. The grapes for this wine were sourced from the Malakoff vineyard in the Victorian Pyranees.

The Syrah was picked in two lots, a couple weeks apart in late March and early April. The early lot was split into a whole berry ferment and a whole bunch/carbonic maceration ferment. The later, April lot was fermented entirely whole bunches and carbonic maceration was done for 3 weeks.

The Nebbiolo was hand picked in late April. This was fermented with entirely whole berries and the skins were left to macerate for an extended time of 4 months. All components then enjoyed 12 months in barrel before being blended together.

The Yarra Valley in Victoria, Australia is a premium wine region within easy driving distance of Melbourne. Famous for Pinot Noir and Chardonnay, Sparkling wine as well as cool climate Shiraz also does well here. Some fantastic Rhone varietals are also being explored with exciting results.

Fetherston, as a relative newcomer to the Australian wine scene, is named after winemaker Chris Lawrence's grandfather, Tony.

Tony Fetherston was an inspiring horticulturalist and the obsession with and love of plants has carried through the generations.

After gaining experience as as a chef, becoming valedictorian of his Oenology degree and stints at Yering Station and Domaine Serene in  Willamette Valley, he partnered up with Camille Koll to begin Fetherston.

They have made a significant splash with their textured, bright style, oozing value from every bottle.
