About This Wine
Gundagai may be the best kept wine secret in NSW. Located 160 kilometres southwest of Canberra, along the foothills of the picturesque Snowy Mountains. A region rich in red volcanic soils and winemaking history dates back to 1877.
Most of the vineyards today, including Tumblong Hills were planted in the 1990s.
The Snowy Mountains not only provide a beautiful vista, they also encourage cool evening breezes throughout the growing season. This helps preserve delicate and complex fruit characters. Additionally, the vibrant ironstone-rich soil is particularly ideal for producing powerful, yet elegant, medium-bodied dry reds.
Tumblong Hills wanted to focus on varieties that suited the area, providing intensity of flavour as well as acid. Enter, Italian grapes; Sangiovese, Barbera and Nebbiolo.
