About This Wine
La Chiave = the key. The key here is the region of Beechworth, where Julian Castagna believes Sangiovese performs at its best in Australia. This wine is a specialty of Castagna, really setting the mark for sangiovese on this side of the world. This wine is all estate fruit, vinified in seperate parcels before going into oak (15-20% new) for roughly 20 months. These parcels are then blended and left to rest in bottle for a further 18-24months. The result of this patience is a very integrated, earthy, multifaceted sangiovese.
It has more in common with fine Cote-Rotie than it does your easy drinking Chianti. Biodynamic from the start, Julian Castagna believes Beechworth is the height of winegrowing in Australia.
