About This Wine

Barda is sourced from the estates youngest vines (some 30 years old). Soils are sandy and as with all the estates vineyards, these vines are ungrafted and are planted using massale selection. This wine is fermented in round cement tanks at low temperatures with natural, unfiltered indigenous yeast. The wine is then matured in French oak barriques for 11 months, of which 15% are new.

Winemaker Piero Rochetta, grandson of famed Super Tuscan 'Sassicaia' producer, jumped at the chance to create Bodegas Charcra in far away Patagonia. This region is known for its iron rich, red clay soils and like the rest of Patagonia, blessed with a semi arid cool climate.

Chacra has quickly become internationally recognised as South America's Pinnacle of Burgundian varieties. This region is still young in terms of recognition yet Piero's involvement since 2004 has catapulted this region to the world stage. Blessed with enviable old vine, ungrafted vineyards (something even Burgundy can rarely claim) plus a truly unique climate make Chardonnay and Pinot Noir through the Patagonian lens unforgettable. If you regularly hunt down By Farr or Felton Road, Chacra has a place in your cellar.

‘Piero strives to make wines that are transparent, pure, delicate, and floral with a strong minerality.'
