About This Wine
Waipara is maybe a new region to you but should be synonymous with wines that are driven and possess floral edged ripeness. Mountford has some incredible vine material on their gentle sloped , limestone based hill. Taken from their oldest vines, this Chardonnay is the result of a wild fermentation taken place in a mix of new and old barrels. Malolactic fermentation was completed creating a lemon curd richness to the acidity. Following fermentation, the wine goes into barrel (30% new) to round out the palate.
Add this to the list of bangin kiwi chardonnay's, winemakers Matt and Takahiro only use wild yeasts and low sulphur. It’s great to see the power of chardonnay on the Waipara limestone really find its groove."
