Very pretty currant and chocolate aromas with hints of hazelnut and sweet tobacco. Full-bodied with round tannins and a juicy finish. Lots of structure and richness to this. Cabernet sauvignon, merlot and cabernet franc. Needs time to soften. 94 Points, James Suckling
Sondraie, from which the wine gets its name, is a great plateau from Aurelia to Bellaria in the northern side of appellation, one of the best places for Cabernet in Bolgheri. Winemaker Luca d'Attoma is considered one of the best interpreters of Cabernet Franc in Italy and this is always one of the best buys. The 2018 is tinged with violet, leafy on the nose with dark chocolate and a signature aroma of coffee powder. On the palate clove and cassis are melted and in balance. Smooth and ripe, and a touch chalky thanks to the oak tannins on the finish. Amazingly fresh. It spends 18 months in French oak, of which 2/3 new. Drinking Window 2021 - 2040 - 95 Points Decanter
