About This Wine

Affectionately nicknamed 'Winnie', this is the incredible top cuvee from Pol Roger. Slightly mysterious as Pol Roger won't confirm the exact makeup of this Champagne. However as a Pinot Noir dominant house, it is assumed this is 70% Pinot Noir 30% Chardonnay. Spending a whopping 7.5 years on lees, this wine is the epitome of luxury.

Dosage is 7g/l and was the first vintage to be made at Pol Roger's new winery facilities. Winnie enjoys its long time on lees in the deepest parts of the Pol Roger cellars at 33m below street level. Being handled expertly by the largest team of master Riddlers in Champagne. Disgorgement took place in July 2020.

Hotly anticipated after the last release of the Sir Winston cuvee in 2009, the 2012 brings immense power and complexity. This vintage has brought in the highest consistent scoring from any past release, competing with the top spot only with the blockbuster 2008 vintage.

Why Sir Winston? Politics and morals aside, the man was a Champagne fiend. His connections to the Pol Roger house began in 1908 with his first purchase. His love for their Champagne intensifies after becoming personal friends with the family some 20 years before his death.  The house releases the first vintage of the cuvee in 1975 in homage. This Champagne is only released in exceptional vintages and though seen as a veritable bargain compared to its peers (think Bollinger R.D. or Billecart-Salmon's Nicolas Francois) and often holds exceptionally well in both value and taste (the latter being our preferred ROI).
