Region: Margaret River, Western Australia
Varieties: Sauvignon blanc (79%), semillon (21%)
Winemaker: Cath Oates

93 Points, Jane Faulkner, Halliday Wine Companion

The quintessential Margaret River white blend, this wine brings the exotic passionfruit of sauvigon blanc with a twist of classic lemon and lime citrus and bracing acidity of semillon, all tempered by a layer of savoury, creamy complexity thanks to regular lees stirring and seven months' oak ageing.

“This wine is a tribute to the great white blend of Margaret River and is also a memory of an unfortunate encounter with a white shark before vintage 2021, and the incredible support I received from the wine community following the incident.” – Cath Oates, Winemaker

About Oates Ends

Oates Ends is homecoming and love of land. They are the wines of Cath Oates, whose highly awarded international winemaking career, spanning 20 years, has covered Italy, New Zealand and the USA. The name comes from a barrel of wine made in the shed two decades ago, a joint family effort that made use of the grapes left at the ends of the rows and was bottled to share with family and friends.

Farming is in the blood of the Oates family, with Cath and her brother Russ growing up on the various family farms in Margaret River as the third generation on the land. The Wilagri property was purchased for beef farming in 1990 and the vineyard was first planted in 1998, on classic Wilyabrup soils, complex loams over deep well draining gravels, renowned for producing world class wines. Now owned by Russ, after the original property was divided in two, he applies over 30 years of viticultural experience to grow impeccable quality fruit.
