About This Wine
Malbec has been a quiet over achiever in Australia, only now are a handful of producers making it the star of their wine offering. Coates source their malbec from an almost forgotten maritime vineyard in Robe, south of Adelaide. Putting in the necessary work to get the vines back to fighting fitness, Duane is now stoked with the quality of fruit. Using wild yeasts and keeping whole berries for half of the ferment, the wine was put into into 33% new French oak for 18 months. This wine is unfined and unfiltered. Man of many talents, winemaker Duane Coates gives a nod to old world styles in a pragmatic and transparent manner. Creating varietally driven, wines that are true to the Australian terroir.
