From an exceptional vintage, this Gundagai shiraz exhibits red cherry aromas with a touch of savoury anise. The palate is medium-bodied and defined by berry fruit flavours, well-integrated French and American oak, with fine tannins and a long finish.
About The Region
Gundagai may be the best kept wine secret in NSW. Located 160 kilometres southwest of Canberra, along the foothills of the picturesque Snowy Mountains, the region is rich in red volcanic soils and winemaking history dates as far back as 1877.
The Snowy Mountains not only provide a beautiful vista; they also encourage cool evening breezes throughout the growing season, helping to preserve delicate and complex fruit characters. Additionally, the vibrant ironstone-rich soil is particularly ideal for producing powerful, yet elegant, medium-bodied dry reds.
About This Wine
The key to vintage 2019 wines commenced with the quality of the fruit. The dry vintage correlates in virtually nil disease pressure, while the bright and warm days provided fruit of even ripeness across individual vineyard blocks. Primarily machine-picked, this ‘Estate grown’ blend of Shiraz was primarily fermented in 4 tonne, open-top stainless-steel fermenters. As colour and flavour were in abundance, the wine remained on skins for 7 days before being pressed close to dryness and sent to French barriques and hogshead for maturation.
