About This Wine

This Shiraz was one of the last to be picked during the 2021 harvest. This single site Shiraz vineyard sits at 880m above sea level, with basalt soils. Unique perfume exudes from this wine due to the row of eucalyptus trees that surround the site. This wine was hand harvested and destemmed into small open fermenters. Fermented on skins before pressing and malolactic fermentation took place in 30% new French oak barrels for 11 months.

The only wine region in Australia to really hang their hat on altitude. Defined as the region 600m above sea level, above the town of Orange and around Mt Canobolas. The region is know for crisp zesty whites and spicier, light to medium bodied reds.

Nashdale Lane is very much built on the back of Nick & Tanya Segger's incredible high altitude vineyard that was established in 2001 at 900m above sea level. Nashdale's wines so clearly express the site regardless of variety. Orange, NSW is a cool climate region and Nashdale Lane is at the upper limit of viticulture. Any higher in elevation and ripeness isn't always possible across varieties.

Nick's background is one of sustainable farming in the UK, His father and Uncle are arguably the two most important people when it comes to organics in the UK. Being raised in this environment, Nick and Tanya sought a cool site with plenty of wind that was going to allow them to farm as close as possible to organics.

The winemaking team is headed by Chris Derrez, a Burgundian whose family still runs a Domaine in Brochon near Gevrey-Chambertin. Chris grew up and was making wine "From when he could first walk, possibly sooner". He's been making wine in the region for 21 years.

These wines are incredibly expressive of place and variety. A clear cohesion between these cool climate styles exists.
