Nashdale Lane is very much built on the back of Nick & Tanya Segger's incredible high altitude vineyard that was established in 2001 at 900m above sea level. Nashdale's wines so clearly express the site regardless of variety. Orange, NSW is a cool climate region and Nashdale Lane is at the upper limit of viticulture. Any higher in elevation and ripeness isn't always possible across varieties.
Nick's background is one of sustainable farming in the UK, His father and Uncle are arguably the two most important people when it comes to organics in the UK. Being raised in this environment, Nick and Tanya sought a cool site with plenty of wind that was going to allow them to farm as close as possible to organics.
The winemaking team is headed by Chris Derrez, a Burgundian whose family still runs a Domaine in Brochon near Gevrey-Chambertin. Chris grew up and was making wine "From when he could first walk, possibly sooner". He's been making wine in the region for 21 years.
These wines are incredibly expressive of place and variety. A clear cohesion between these cool climate styles exists.
