About This Wine
As Stu has been working with the Willowlake vineyard since 2014 he has a certain affection for the site. referring to the fruit there as being "in the Goldilocks Zone, a great site, managed sustainably by amazing people and whilst the fruit is under enough stress to produce intense concentrated characters the fruit is cared for enough to manage this stress." 200 metres above sea level old vine MV6 is planted on grey clay-loam over red volcanic that provides exceptional drainage. All in all, a stunning well-spring of Pinot Noir.
The grapes were handpicked on 1st April and perfect ripeness. Once in the winery, the grapes were destemmed into small fermenters with 15% remaining as whole bunches. The wine was fermented for 21 days, allowing the ferment to go dry and extract tannin and body prior to pressing. Once pressed, the wine was run to barrel for a natural fermentation and maturation before being blended and bottled in January 2022 without fining or filtration. The wine has been further aged in bottle for 18 months prior to release.
