San Polo Brunello di Montalcino DOCG 2013

A very classically styled Brunello, with dark plum, ripe cherry and a hint of violets giving way to forest floor, porcini-like undergrowth and cedar. There's a great density of flavour and tannin here, all underpinned by a pretty, vanilla-soaked suppleness.

96 Points, James Suckling

"Aromas of iodine and dried wood thread through clear red-berry notes, leading to a palate that has a fullish core of quite open-knit, ripe cherries. Drink or hold."

About This Wine

Region: Montalcino, Tuscany, Italy
Varieties: 100% sangiovese
Winemaker: Riccardo Fratton

As with all Brunellos, this spent 24 months in large, medium-toast oak barrels. Most barrels are seasoned or second use so as not to mask the fruit and terroir.

Intense ruby red color with garnet reflections, clean and bright. The nose expresses the typical aromas of violet and small red fruits. There are hints of underbrush, aromatic wood, vanilla, and jam, followed by subtle notes of intense and persistent coffee. It is a warm wine in the mouth, with a dense and full-bodied texture. The finish is long, with well-defined tannins. Brunello di San Polo, thanks to the characteristics of the land from which it comes, withstands long aging and improves with time in the bottle. – San Polo
