This Grower Champagne is based in Cuis on the Cote des Blancs of Champagne. This is Chardonnay county. The mostly east facing slope is south of the famed towns of Reims and Epernay and is almost entirely planted to Chardonnay. It's where the great houses source their Chardonnay from.
Pierre Gimonnet have been growing grapes here since 1750. They used to be one of the favoured sources of Chardonnay for Pol Roger. Pierre Gimonnet realised they could express their vineyards in their own style in the 1920's and began their own label. The current generation; Didier and Olivier Gimonnet took their fathers change of style and ran with it. Their wines are best described as crystalline, salty with diamond edged acidity. The only house that they allow to buy their fruit is still their mates at Pol Roger.
They have a huge percentage of Grand Cru fruit (almost 50%) and utilise this generously in their NV styles right up to their single vineyard Champagnes. They are also a part of the 'Special Club' (we know that does not translate as fancily to English as the French think); a grower cooperation that peer reviews/approves ever bottle that bears the co-ops mark.
