About This Wine
This Marsanne certainly benefits from its Upper Yarra vineyard. This allows a lot of freshness to a grape that can let its nutty ripe characteristics run away on itself. The grapes were harvested when the decadent almond nuttiness was in balance with fresh pear flavours. Whole bunch pressed to oak barrels, of which 33% was new. Only the free run juice was kept. Natural fermentation and blocking malolactic fermentation before a little sulphur was added before bottling. No other additions were made.
Alkimi is the project of winemaker Stu Dudine whose love affair with Rhone varieties has landed him in the Yarra Valley. Chardonnay and Pinot Noir are the classics here with some Rhone varieties gaining seriously great reputation. Stu's wines are made with only the most fundamental winemaking practices in mind, often unfined and unfiltered along with minimal sulphur use.
