One the country's greatest examples of this variety, made from cuttings from the world's oldest mourvèdre vines.
Region: Barossa Valley, SA
Varieties: 100% mourvèdre
Winemaker: Dean Hewitson
This younger example of Mourvèdre is a ‘Selection Massale’, or cuttings, from Hewitson's 1853 Old Garden Vineyard. Planting of this vineyard commenced in 1998, to ensure a continuation of the 1853 Mourvèdre legacy. Selection Massale is a traditional way of propagating from exceptional, ancient vines. Born from excellent stock, our parent vineyard is known to be the oldest Mourvèdre in the world and has passed on a notable high quality of fruit.
Lifted aromas of violets and raspberry lead with broody undertones of dark fruits and charred meat. The palate is silky and medium-bodied. An utterly delicious wine.
