Carménère traces its origins to the Médoc region of Bordeaux, where it was predominately used as a blending variety. Only recently has it found its true home to shine as a singular variety in parts of Chile where it is now enjoyed by many around the world.
The fruit for Wangolina's A Series carménère was sourced from the Old Mundulla Vineyard, where it was the last to be picked of the vintage. Fermented for 14 days, it was then basket-pressed & left to mature for 18 months in conditioned oak.
The tasting experience of this wine shares parallels with a brighter version of a cabernet sauvignon.
Exotic aromas of five-spice, red bell-peppers, mulberry leaf and red rose highlights make for a very enticing and playful albeit contemplative nose. The palate starts gently as it slowly builds to a medium-full bodied core of red mulberry and a teasingly seductive hints of sweet habanero and soy highlights. The tannins are fine and grainy, finishing the wine on a gently drying note.
The lighter tannins and higher acidity pair beautifully with the lamb and mint combination, or pork, or even darker white game such as turkey and duck.
