About This Wine
An extremely special wine here, if you have been keeping up with the explosion of McLaren Vale Grenache you will know the holy trinity that makes up those few exceptional wines is the sourcing of Old Vine material (1) planted on sandy soils (2) and a gentle hand in the winery (3).
Michael has produced this outstanding example. Sourced from 70-year-old vines predominantly off the Brini Vineyard which since planting has been farmed by the same family, the vines are planted on deep sandy soils and produce concentrated, expressive fruit.
Michael's approach is very minimal, partial ferment in locally made terracotta pots with all ferments being hand plunged and then spending 9 months in oak before some time in bottle. There are benchmark examples and then there are those setting that benchmark this, undoubtedly, is the latter.

Main & Cherry has turned heads in recent years with winemaker Michael Sexton's small batch, distinctive wines.
Having grown up in the Adelaide Hills where his parents planted the original Main & Cherry vineyard in 1996 and Mike acquiring his own home vineyard in McLaren Vale, he knows the vineyard wealth of this region very well.
Mike likes to keep things in harmony so instead of using pesticides in the vineyard, he employs a gang of Indian Runner ducks to keep pests in check. In the winery, he works gently by hand, favouring a small basket press over any high tech equipment.
